SO what is the Korean Skincare Routine and what’s  so good about it.

The Korean skincare routine has taken the world by storm with its unique, innovative and multi-step way of achieving radiant and flawless skin. It is often referred to as K-Beauty, the Korean skincare routine focuses on thorough cleansing, moisturizing and nourishing to achieve a healthy and radiant complexion.

Inside this guide, you’ll be taken through the key steps of a typical Korean skincare routine and the benefits each step offers.

Step 1: Double Cleansing

At the heart of the Korean skin care routine is double cleansing, which means using an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser. The oil-based cleanser removes makeup, sunscreen and excess oils, while the water-based cleanser rids the skin of all impurities and perspiration. The dual cleansing provides a clean base for the remaining skin care products.

Step 2: Exfoliation (1-2 times a week)

It is important to exfoliate regularly these days to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Koreans often use gentle exfoliants with natural ingredients to avoid irritation. This step promotes cell turnover and provides smoother and more radiant skin.

Step 3: Toner

toners help to balance the pH of the skin and prepare the skin to better absorb subsequent products. Korean toners are moisturizing and may contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or plant extracts to soothe and nourish the skin. But you are free to chose a toner that you prefer .

Step 4: Essence

Essence is a lightweight, watery product that provides a boost of hydration and aids in improving skin texture. It often contains active ingredients like fermented extracts, which promote skin renewal and overall skin health.

Step 5: Serums and Ampoules

Serums and ampoules are highly effective formulations that target specific skin problems such as hyperpigmentation, wrinkles or acne. They deliver concentrated ingredients deep into the skin for maximum effectiveness.

Step 6: Sheet Masks (1-3 times a week)

Sheet masks are a staple of K-beauty,  they provide intense hydration and nourishment. They come in different formulations for different skin needs and are perfect for giving your skin a spa-like treatment at home.

Step 7: Eye Cream

Because of the delicate skin around our eyes, they need special care. Eye creams moisturize and protect this area, reducing fine lines and dark circles.

Step 8: Moisturizer

The moisturizer lock in all previous layers of moisture with a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. Korean moisturizers are often light, non-greasy and provide long-lasting hydration.

Step 9: Sunscreen (in the morning)

Protecting your skin from the sun is essential to prevent premature aging and sun damage. Korean sunscreens are comfortable to wear, offering both UVA and UVB protection. The best Sunscreen are the ones with SPF 50 or 50+.

Step 10: Night Cream or Sleeping Mask (in the evening)

Overnight products like night creams or sleeping masks provide intensive nourishment and repair while you sleep. They help you wake up to revitalized and rejuvenated skin.
